About Me

I am a 2nd Year PhD student in Professor Johanna Vos' group, researching the mechanisms driving the variability of brown dwarfs. I completed my undergraduate degree in Physics and Astrophysics in Trinity College Dublin in 2023. By the way, check out my research here.

Research

My current research focuses on disentangling the drivers of variability of three early L-dwarfs. I use simultaneous observations from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Very Large Array for multiwavelength obsrevations in the near-infrared and radio respectively. These allow me to determine whether the driving mechanism of variability on these brown dwarfs are due to clouds, aurorae, magnetic spots, or some combinaion of them.

I also have a keen interest in searching for both the elusive ultraviolet and near infrared signatures of brown dwarf aurora and the search for exomoons.

Outside of academic research I am passionate about outreach. In particular, making our work accessible to the public, whether that be through public talks, videos during Science Week or otherwise. I want to increase awareness of the work we do to make a career in astrophysics in Ireland seem more attainable, and not just a career for the lucky few.
